COVID-19-IN CAMEROON

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to worsen around the world as well as in Cameroon. As per the COVID 19 Emergency Situation Report No. 02,

  • As of 1st June 20, 6,752 cases have been tested positive with COVID-19 in Cameroon, including 199 deaths.
  • The number of cases of infection is increasing in regions already affected by humanitarian crisis.
  • Despite the support of WHO and other partners, the response to COVID 19 is stalling.
  • The COVID-19 outbreak causes dramatic socio-economic impacts for the most vulnerable households.

THE SOCIO-POLITICAL CRISIS IN THE NORTH WEST AND SOUTH WEST REGIONS OF CAMEROON.

Population in the North West and South West regions continue to suffer the severe humanitarian consequences of the socio-political crisis in both regions ongoing since 2016. According to OCHA report No. 20 of June 2020, about 3 million persons are affected in the two region. It is estimated that about 1.4 have been assisted with 679,000 internally displaced and 59,000 refugees in Nigeria. Children and women are the most affected.

INSECURITY IN THE FAR NORTH REGION

The Far North Region of Cameroon continues to face an unprecedented, recurrent and protracted security crisis due to the repeated violent incursions by non-state armed groups, mostly cross-border in origin, in which local populations live in constant fear as they continue to be exposed .
