CHILD PROTECTION

ANPPCAN Cameroon is committed to ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for every  child.

ANPPCAN Cameroon is working tirelessly with other stakeholders such as the government,international and national NGOs, faith and community based organizations, media, professional schools and universities, and private sector in protecting children and combatting violence in all its forms.

ANPPCAN Cameroon priorities the following to child protection:

    • Social welfare and child protection systems strengthening, we set up and build the capacities of community child protection mechanism, ensuring inclusive participation of different stakeholders within the community.
    • Changing policy and raising awareness through advocacy and social mobilization are key in combatting the normalization of gender inequality. Through increased public awareness, education and responsive policies, we hope to end violence.
    • Prevention and early intervention aims to establish programs (like child friendly spaces, safe spaces for children and woman), provide technical support to the community in preventing violence against children and assisting victims. We also provide referral pathways for victims of violence.in collaboration with other actors in the domain.

HEALTH

APPCAN Cameroon is committed to ensuring that every child survives and thrives.

In Cameroon, the infant mortality rate remains high and statistics show that 11% of newborns are moderately and/or severely underweight. HIV/AIDS is one of Cameroon’s gravest health concerns.

It is particularly widespread among young women.

Malaria is prevalent in many areas; respiratory and pulmonary diseases and dysentery also occur in some areas, with children highly affected.

ANPPCAN Cameroon prioritizes the following to health;

    • Health education
    • Adolescent sexual reproductive health
    • Child Nutrition
    • Safe water and basic sanitation (WASH)
    • Maternal and child health
    • Prevention and control of local endemic and neglected tropical diseases

EDUCATION

ANPPCAN Cameroon is committed to ensuring learning for every child.

In theory, Cameroon recognizes that children have the right to a free education. Yet, parents continue to finance their children’s studies. This hinders access to school for underprivileged children.

ANPPCAN Cameroon priorities the following to education:

Organization of education campaign to raise awareness on the importance of education.

    • Advocate with government, local authorities and communities to promote the right to
      education of children, particularly girls
    • Support the most improvised families by an allowance for school materials
    • Remedial classes for children and low learners
    • Organization of cultural and sporting activities for children

ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT

ANPPCAN Cameroon is committed to promoting self-reliant amongst youths and young women

In Cameroon women have very little economic resources and power to make decisions that benefit themselves, their families and their communities. Most women continue to earn on average only 60 to 75% of what men earn.

ANPPCAN Cameroon priorities the following to economic empowerment;

    • Vocational training for youths (boys and girls).
    • Agricultural and livestock training for farmers.
    • Income generating activities (Village Savings schemes, Cash and Voucher approach, promotion of saving schemes for children and youths)
    • Empowering children and youths through social and financial education

EMERGENCY RESPONSE

ANPPCAN Cameroon is committed to prviding life-saving intervention during crisis.

Cameroon in addition to the COVID-19 pandemic is witnessing two severe and protracted crisis in the Far North Region and in the North West and South West Regions.  This has led to large displacements of persons both internally and externally inflicting sufferings.

ANPPCAN Cameroon priorities the following to emergency response;

      • Quality, life-saving humanitarian assistance.
      • Education in Emergency
      • Child Protection in emergency.
      • Promoting the participation of children and youths in disaster risk reduction.
